Did You Know That Trenchless Sewer Line Repair Is A Real Option?

Having issues with your home’s sewer line can create a massive amount of unneeded stress in your life. There are concerns about the cost of the repairs, the time it will take to have the work completed, and even thoughts of the destruction and condition of your yard when the job is finished. And of course, there is the most upsetting thought that the pipe will back-up and flood your home with raw sewage before you settle on a resolution that fits into your budget. But before signing with any plumbing contractor, be sure to investigate your options for trenchless sewer line repair and replacement.

How It All Works

When you call a licensed plumber to your home to investigate a sewer line issue, the first step will be to examine the inside of the pipe. This step is accomplished with the help of a tiny waterproof camera that is inserted into the sewer line. The images reveal if the issue is a blockage, root invasion, or other pipe damage. And that will determine which type of repair is best for you.

Small Section Of Damage

If there is only a small section of pipe that was damaged from a root invasion or other outside force, a trenchless repair of that section will get your sewer line back into service. The entire sewer line is cleaned using a high-pressure water jet to blast away any debris and residue. Next, an epoxy-coated repair liner is inserted through a small access hole and moved into the pipe’s damaged section. Then a bladder is inflated inside the liner to force it against the wall of the sewer line. The epoxy will bond the liner to the inside of the old, damaged pipe in about a day. Once the seal is complete, the bladder is deflated and removed, and you have a fully functional sewer line again.

Full Sewer Line Replacement

You will be happy to learn that the same process used to repair a damaged section of your sewer line also works on a larger scale to replace the entire line. The line is cleaned first, and then a longer epoxy-coated sleeve is inserted to match the length of your existing sewer line. Then the removable bladder is inflated to hold the new liner against the old pipe wall until the epoxy cures. When the bladder is removed, you will have a new sewer line inside the old damaged one.

Trenchless Process Pros

The most significant benefit of the trenchless process is that it eliminates a massive amount of digging. Not only does that reduce the destruction to your property, but it also reduces the time needed to complete the repair to about a single day in most cases. And because there is far less labor involved, this repair or sewer line replacement process is far more cost-effective. In the case of a complete sewer line replacement, the resin sleeve used is a single solid tube with no joints. This means that there are no tiny cracks at joints for tree roots to access and damage the new sewer line. And finally, the resin pipe liner used for the repair and the replacement is rated to last for about 50 years.
